What is a website speed test?
A website speed test measures how fast a page loads and how smooth it feels to interact with — and, more usefully, it tells you exactly what is slow and what to fix. This tool runs a real Google Lighthouse audit on Google’s own servers: the same open-source auditing engine that powers Chrome DevTools, browsing the live page just like a visitor and measuring scores instead of guessing. You get four category scores, the Core Web Vitals that Google Search uses (LCP, INP, CLS), supporting metrics such as first paint, server response time and blocking time, the page’s weight and request count, and a ranked list of optimization opportunities with the seconds each one can save.

What does a website speed test actually measure?

Mobile and desktop are separate audits.
What is the difference between lab data and real-user (CrUX) data?
Lab data comes from a Lighthouse audit just run on a synthetic device right now. Real-user data comes from the Chrome UX Report — aggregates of actual Chrome visitors’ measurements on the URL. Field data only appears when Google has enough samples, and it can differ from the lab numbers: load on a real phone in the real world is affected by network type, device and page changes over time.
Is a speed test free? Does this site see my URL?
Yes, it is free: no account and no credits. The only place your URL leaves the browser is Google’s PageSpeed Insights API, which actually runs the audit. Results are cached for up to an hour so repeated tests of the same page don’t burn the shared Google quota; nothing else is sent and nothing is stored about you.
