What tip percentage is standard?⌄
In the US, 15–20% of the pre-tax bill is standard for table service, with 18–20% being common for good service. Customs vary by country — in some places tipping is not expected at all.
Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?⌄
Convention in the US is to tip on the pre-tax subtotal, not the total including sales tax. This calculator does not distinguish — enter whichever amount you prefer to tip on.
